I always thought I had a 923 Medium bore from 1982, but recently I did find a brochure in my music files which talks about a 920 Medium bore and another model as Large bore. I know ( I think) that mine is a Medium bore. So which model do I have here? The leadpipe is rather short and the cornet is pretty much in your face when you play it. I have aquired a Besson trumpet and I'm trying to find some information on the model, year and value. The serial number is 319423. Yours may still be a 920 but next generation. Main differences:- Bell profile, triggers, trigger linkages, 3rd bend in leadpipe, forward facing 2nd valve slide. Cheers, Frank Fairly large collection.

Here is a really good picture (I'm not saying that FrankM's one isn't), of what I believe to be a typical 920 Sovereign, with a small picture of the Imperial above, to show their similarities. Notice the extra slide, like the Imperial, at the final bend before the leadpipe enters the third valve All the best Lou Trumpets: Yamaha 8335 Xeno II Bach Strad 180ML/37 Kanstul F Besson C - James R New Custom 3Cs Flugel: Bach Strad 183 - Bach 3CFL Cornets: Yamaha Xeno Bach Strad 184ML - Differing Kanstul Custom 3Cs - Denis Wick 4B underpart/my 3C rim LETHAL DRONE Regular Member Joined: 12 Dec 2013 Posts: 49 Posted: Thu Feb 06, 2014 11:42 pm Post subject: What you have there my guess is a 921 Large Bore cornet. It isn't a 920 as I play currently on a 920 and there are some noticeable differences between the two (the 1st and 3rd triggers mainly in terms of appearance). To me, the pinky ring and ring on the 3rd slide trigger suggest a date more around the late 1970s than 1982, but I may be wrong about this. Based on my understanding that the 923 was based on the 921 Sovereign, but with a medium bore, and your cornet having the pinky ring and 3rd trigger ring of the 921 but with what looks like a medium bore bell, I believe that you have what came between the 920 with the extra slide where the leadpipe enters the 3rd valve, and the 923 with the pinky hook and lever style triggers. Whether it is a 920 or 923, I'm not sure.
